Multi-Angle Timelapse for Major Projects: Setup Guide
One angle tells a story, three angles tell a construction process. Here's how we plan multi-camera timelapse for 12-month-plus projects.
When one angle is no longer enough
For projects under six months or a single, well-defined structure a single camera is fine. For major builds — hospital, industrial plant, infrastructure — multiple angles are indispensable: a wide, a detail on the main structure, a wide from a second bearing.
Site selection
- Height & distance: 30–100 m high, 50–300 m away is the classic stable wide.
- Long-term sightline: budget for new buildings, cranes, foliage.
- Access: if a tech has to visit once a quarter the route must be planned.
Synchronisation
All cameras trigger to the same second — solar profiles and cellular sync ensure the angles cut together later. Time metadata is written to EXIF plus a separate log.
Data management
- Raw images are uploaded to a cloud bucket daily (encrypted).
- On-board backup storage as a safety net during connectivity outages.
- Monthly review cut shows progress and system health.
Post-production
- Colour matching across cameras (sun position, lens differences).
- Split-screens & overlays for phase highlights.
- Music & sound design in multiple lengths (60/90/180s).
Bottom line
Multi-angle timelapse is a long-term investment. Plan it cleanly and you end up with a marketing asset that works on every pitch slide and internally as a progress control.
