A livestream is only as good as its behaviour when something breaks. Here's how we build in redundancy — from encoder to uplink.
The real job: not streaming — not dropping
At every livestream there are viewers who catch just that one moment. If the stream drops for 30 seconds, they're gone. The decisive skill is not vision mixing, it's redundancy.
Cameras & vision mixing
- 3–4 cameras: wide, presenter, detail (podium/graphics), audience.
- Professional vision mixer with ISO recording — every camera also stored individually.
- Graphics playout on a separate machine.
Network & streaming
- Two uplinks in parallel: wired (fibre or business DSL) plus 4G/5G bonding.
- Failover: encoder sends to primary and backup server.
- Streaming platform by audience: public platform (reach), access-controlled platform, internal platform (confidentiality).
Audio — the most common failure
Viewers forgive bad picture, they don't forgive bad audio. We rely on wired lavaliers plus spare wireless links and a dedicated audio engineer on headphones.
Interaction & hybrid
- Q&A: live polling tools or moderated chat.
- Remote speakers: securely integrated via a dedicated remote link.
- Recording in parallel for later on-demand use.
Bottom line
A professional event stream lives on redundancy and calm. One camera, one uplink, one audio channel — that's saving at the wrong end. Before every event the question is: "What if X fails?" — and for every X there's a plan B.
